Severna Park Assistance Network: We are the caring hands in our community

Prescription Drugs

The cost of prescription drugs can be daunting. This is particularly true for families when...

  • A primary provider cannot work because of illness or needs to stay home to take care of sick children.
  • The income that is available is enough to cover day-to-day expenses, but there is very little left over to cover unexpected expenses such as prescription drugs when a family member becomes ill.
  • A family does not have health insurance or benefits have run out.

A family in these, or other situations may make the decision not to fill the prescription and hope that things get better. Others may decide to fill the prescription, while skimping on food or not paying other bills, including rent. Either choice will result in a danger to the family's health and well being.

Families in our own community are faced with these decisions on a regular basis, in order to help these families SPAN will provide between $150 and $200 a year in prescription drug assistance. When a family's needs exceed what SPAN can provide, SPAN volunteers work with the family to help them identify other available sources of assistance.

Safeway, Walmart and Target both offer generic drugs for $4.00. Below are links for the most current list of available $4 prescriptions for each retailer (Safeway list not currently available). Each list is in PDF format and Adobe Reader is required to view the lists.
