A:
We have a pretty substantial adult volunteer base who come daily to sort our food, and they do a great job of taking care of all of our work - most of which happens during the school day.
We periodically have community events and love youth help with those.
All of our shelves are filled from individual donations. It is wonderful when youth do food/toiletry drives in their communities for SPAN.
There are also opportunities for youth to make positive uplifting, greeting cards that we include with our food. Sometimes youth put together "birthday bags", with items to help our clients celebrate their child's birthday. They could also put together "dinner in a bag", with non perishable items that could be used to complete a full meal.
We are always also in need of funding because we give financial assistance to clients for court-ordered evictions, utility turnoffs and medical copays. If your youth would be willing to do a fundraiser for SPAN, that would be greatly appreciated. Examples would be a bake sale or car wash or something of that nature.
For more information or ideas about any of these projects please email SPAN.
If any Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, or member of a similar group is interested in doing a service project for SPAN, please email [email protected] and we will be happy to make suggestions about innovative projects, such as construction improvements to our physical building, landscaping, or other activities of that nature.
